Perhaps it’s th<\/span>e unfortunat<\/span>e lack of succ<\/span>ess that, r<\/span>elativ<\/span>e to c<\/span>ertain counti<\/span>es, Wat<\/span>erford hav<\/span>e<\/span> been unfortunate to experience.\u00a0 Our neighbours Kilkenny have had outstanding success in rec<\/span>ent y<\/span>ears, culminating in a fourth succ<\/span>essiv<\/span>e AI titl<\/span>e y<\/span>est<\/span>erday.<\/span><\/p>\n

I’s not easy to look on and see one’s n<\/span>eighbours succ<\/span>e<\/span>eding wh<\/span>er<\/span>e <\/span>we fail to get one title in 50 years, but the Cats are successful not because they’re lucky or because th<\/span>ey have a system that their county structure has worked hard to create over the years.<\/p>\n

There’s no reason why Waterford can’t do the same.\u00a0 It’s a hurling county, after all, with very little football getting in the way of such a programme.\u00a0 What it would require is a certain level of cooperation.\u00a0 In the past, that hasn’t been there.\u00a0 The great gains made in the 1957-63 period seemed to dissipate into thin air quickly afterwards and it seems incredible, even now, that it took a full thirty-nine years before the next Munster title was achieved.<\/p>\n
